GCYSA was proud to participate in US Sailing’s inaugural Olympic Development Program Camp, the first of its kind. The top sailors across the country in I420s, Radials, and 29ers were invited to Miami to race in preparation for the ISAF Youth Worlds at the end of the year. The ODP provided expert coaches, weather analysts, videographers, and tracking to augment the knowledge gained simply by racing the best. Sailors competed in a ‘coaches regatta’ where coaching was permitted while racing, allowing direct feedback and immediate learning. Miami served up absolutely champagne conditions, with a strong NE’ly gradient in the 15-20 kt range all weekend.
GCYSA sailors put in a strong showing, with Max Guerriero, Charlotte Rose, and Skylar Bayman in the top 9. Charlotte was also the top female finisher! In the I420s, we had a record-breaking 35 boats on the line. Zane Tinnell/Reese Guerriero put together a solid, clean series to finish 7th. Team Sole (AnaClaire and Sophia) were pushing the line, but despite two UFD penalties, sailed beautifully to finish 8th. Team Abate (Alex and Marcus) suffered a breakdown and a UFD, but kept it together to finish 11th.
