GCYSA sailors are pumped to begin the World Championships today in Sanremo, Italy. We’re sitting on land waiting for sea breeze right now but the opening ceremonies last night were awesome!
This is the largest 420 World ever, with 524 sailors from 24 counties, representing 5 continents. And the largest group of Team USA sailors ever – 19 teams/38 sailors/5 coaches.
The festivities began with a moment of silence to honor the victims of the Nice attack. And the French team received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the crowd as their flag was raised and national anthem played.
Cheer on Alex & Marcus Abate in the Open Fleet and AnaClaire & Sophia Solè in the Women’s. GCYSA Executive Director Sarah Lihan is proud to join Team USA as a coach.
