High performance youth sailing team. Based in Galveston, Texas

Instagram post 2330712619603867225_7063829654 A little regatta yesterday afternoon to finish up the training camp at @lakewoodyachtclub congratulations to @aidandenniss (GCYSA team member) for taking out the Radial division and Haru for taking out the 4.7. I throughly enjoyed working with you all and look forward to training with you all again. The next stop for GCYSA is a training camp at Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club (home club of @lucija.ruzevic) in the lead up to the Fort Worth TSA event next weekend. We hope to see you all there.
Instagram post 2329240908148550676_7063829654 This week we are over at @lakewoodyachtclub working with their Laser race team. We have been blessed with awesome weather over the first couple of days and looking forward to the final 2 days of the training camp. With the heat being in the 90’s this week hydration has been key. No water = No focus
Instagram post 2314300282969967298_7063829654 A happy sailor right now can only mean one thing.... GCYSA is back into full training for the Summer starting next week. Even though most events are cancelled for the Summer some Texas events are still going on and with the announcement of the Laser Radial Men’s and Women’s worlds happening in Houston March 2021 there is no better time for a training block. If you are wanting to do a little extra training in the Laser 4.7, Radial or Standard over the Summer feel free to get in touch with our coach Alex Dyet @ alex.dyet@gcysa.org or head over to www.gcysa.org to find our training calendar.
Instagram post 2269398969153086867_7063829654 The team managing to keep their distance from one and other to continue doing what they love.
Instagram post 2264399773408940825_7063829654 Even though Mids West was postponed the training doesn’t stop. Today we were lucky enough to have a visit from GCYSA graduate @crainsailing on his foiling windsurfer
Instagram post 2250844381173154659_7063829654 GCYSA team member @mburnsii managed to take out Mid Winters East for 2020. With a tough mountain to climb on the final day Michael managed to find the 10 points he needed to claim the top spot. He sailed an insanely consistent regatta with his worst race only being a 7th. As always the learning Never stops and the team will be working hard now in preparation for Mid Winters West which will serve as the first of two qualification events for the Youth World Championships being held later this year in Brazil.
Instagram post 2242512765686512936_7063829654 We have a couple of spots left in our 4.7 Open training weekend this weekend. If you would like to take part feel free to get in contact with GCYSA Head Coach Alex Dyet. Alex.dyet@gcysa.org
Instagram post 2211147431230451359_7063829654 It was a rather challenging Orange bowl this year with a very competitive fleet. The team performed really well with special mentions going to @mburnsii for finishing 5th overall in the Laser Radial fleet through being extremely consistent and being one of only 4 not to have a race outside the top 10. Also @grace17austin managed 14th overall and was 1st girl. Not a bad way to finish 2019. We look forward to hitting it hard again 2020 👊👊👊
Instagram post 2208166791245601812_7063829654 Yesterday we had our final tune up for Orange bowl 2019. Rather short session on the water in moderate breeze. The team is feeling good and are all ready to attack day 1.
Instagram post 2190511903435011881_7063829654 We are proud to announce that in Spring 2020 we will be holding 2 Laser 4.7 Open Training Weekends. Both weekends will be run by Head Coach Alex Dyet. If you are interested in attending please contact him. Both weekends will be run out of Texas Corinthian Yacht club in Houston, Texas so if you are out of state and would like to fly in let Alex know and he can help you find a charter boat.
Instagram post 2180937296780602590_7063829654 The team had a fun although rather cold weekend in Jacksonville for the 2019 District 13 Laser Championships. The wind was ranging from 8-18 knots. Starting was rather crucial in this event with a long line and shifty wind. Congratulations to @mburnsii who finished up just off the podium in fourth place. The next event for us will be Orange bowl over the Christmas break.

Lots of fun working with Laser Sailing over the weekend! Worked with them on race day fueling strategies. Their races are typically a part of a multi-day regatta and take place all over the country and world! Many factors to take into account when planning their nutrition strategy!
Instagram post 2165013951618851299_7063829654 Thanks @crainsailing from @sailingperformancetraining for coming down and working with us on the weekend. The whole team thoroughly enjoyed the session.

An amazing session in the gym wasn't all we received on the weekend. The weather god's were smiling on us also with wind ranging from 5-10 knots over the weekend with the sun shining the whole time.
Instagram post 2134294745063752035_7063829654 Pass Christian turned it on this weekend for the Gulf Coast Laser Championships with winds sitting at 10-15knots and the sun shining all day. With there being a smaller fleet than the team usually races against it proved to be a good chance to check early season speeds. We had 3 GCYSA sailors competing at the event. Michael Burns finished 2nd overall (1st in SEISA qualifier), Grace Austin finished 5th overall (also 1st girl) and Emma McInnis finished 9th overall (2nd SEISA qualifier). Thanks Pass Christian Yacht Club and the Burns family for putting on an amazing event.

Instagram post 2097517107083461388_7063829654 The Laser North Americans finished up earlier this week. Thankfully the wind was good to us all week making for some awesome racing. @asher_zittrer managed to finish 3rd overall after a very challenging final day and @mburnsii ended up 8th overall.
The whole team had ups and downs throughout the regatta and managed to learn some important lessons.
